This is certainly true. And as far as the net advertising awareness goes, I have seen over a
dozen barnsandnobel.com ads on the mainstream TV shows this weekend and not a single
amazon commercial.

I noticed this too.

B&N has admitted in the past that they got dragged into this net BS by their heals 'cause
they knew it was a loser as a business. But now that they are into this trading stamp game
they and their partners will keep amazon unprofitable and let it bleed to death. All B&N
really has to do is break even on net books to accomplish this. Same goes for all the other
lines amazon can try out like toys, drugs, sex, etc. -g-

You do have the point here. BKS has stated this is not a profitable way to do business. They just could not let AMZN not have competition. BGP is hardly making an effort for the same reason. I just cannot see how AMZN will ever turn a profit. I can see them doing a secondary next year to raise more cash.

Ice,< I believe you will find mainstreams knows the name Barnes and Noble better>
Not if you believe business week.
Even after Barnes & Noble went online, it was slower to take advantage of the Net's ability to customize its site to each shopper. That allowed Amazon to use its appealing customer experience as a branding tool far more powerful than conventional advertising. And Barnes & Noble? Despite its well-known name and huge online marketing campaign, only 37% of Internet users recognized the brand without prompting, vs. 50% that knew Amazon, according to Intelliquest Information Group.

This only happened recently! I saw 5-10 commercials from AMZN about 1 month ago, I haven't seen them recently only BKS commercials.
Maybe AMZN doesn't need to advertise since they get so much public
awareness from CNBC & CNN every nite about the stock price and the
internet segment always mention AMZN for some reason.
