When given a choice between good and evil, light and darkness, beauty and depravity - basic human nature will make the right choices. In the anomalies you cite, evil was able to spin falsity and make it appear to be truthful. If the premise that people will choose good over evil does not hold, then human civilization will end - and deservedly so.

I don't think Hitler was voted into office, though he did get some percentage of the votes when he was less extreme. Nazi Germany was a military state.
