The AV spin off is pure speculation.

The key with Compaq is it's more agressive stance in the market.

Once the numbers start coming out regarding direct sales and the DEC
acquisition gets digested the future looks pretty good.

IMHO it is the best positioned of all the box makers, and if they execute the direct business model they can start to cut DELL/GTW at the knees.

The AV sale (if it happens) will probably value AV >$1Bn or approx $6/share. They will do it to have the least tax impact to Compaq.
Perhaps others can comment on the most likely scenario. However I would not base my investment on the AV spin-off.
