<<If the DOJ loses this trial, I would predict that the opinion polls would only get worse for against MSFT.

Sorry, the only people cheering for MSFT are the Coat-tail riding ISVs and the shareholders.

Wrong, simply wrong.

I was reading the Nov 30 issue of one of the newsweeklies on a plane today. They published a survey of public opinion. The public clearly sides with Gates/MSFT and against the government.

Downplaying the falling apart of the state coalition shows you are blinded by your love for NOVL.

Toy -
Don't confuse the industry with the folks that are unhappy with MSFT. IBM is the only one of the big 4 who has a beef with MSFT. CPQ is testifying for MSFT, DELL is obviously in the camp, HP is neutral.

There is a lot of resentment of MSFT in the developer community, and it is surprisingly strong among influential thinkers, but most of their concerns are not addressed by the DOJ case. Those attitudes will remain no matter what the outcome of the trial. If there was any benefit to this circus it was to send the message to MSFT that they were losing the support of the people who made them great, and that their business practices were working against the long term best interest of MSFT.
