In its simplest terms, SS is a Ponzi scheme that has a fundamental cash-flow problem. Since we aren't now able to get rid of it (government-sponsored wealth-redistribution is never going away) we are forced to either reduce the outflow or increase the intake. Given that the demographics are against us (statistically aging population) in taking the traditional Democrat "take more and more" approach, the answers now have to come from both sides of the equation. Accounting games aren't sufficient any more, either.

As to Medicare and Medicaid, we see the fruits of socialism at work again, where a substantial percentage of the money spent doesn't do anything medical for the patient, and where those who will engage in fraudulent or unethical activities are given a playground.
