Kerry - if we leave that money in the hands of the SS Administration (which "loans" it to the Treasury Department) we'll still end up in the same situation - more taxes to cover the shortfall. The "trust fund" has to be invested in something better than Treasury interest. Since the only potentially higher return is in the private sector, some portion of the money has to go there.

But do you want bureaucrats and politicians directing the investing? Surely not.
