I think the market will be choppy over the next few weeks but see new highs in the new year. Banks and brokerages hit lows in September and October. The specialists bought stock for their long term investment accounts at that time. I thinks that the stocks in these sectors will advance at least until next September/October at which point they can establish long term capital gains. I am still thinking about the 2000 problem. There is a real possibility of a recession in the U.S. caused by computer failure. This would be a perfect excuse for the specialists/MMs to crash to market. Remember, on Good Friday, 1998, the SEC sneaked out the news the circuit breakers would allow a 10% drop before kicking in. I would appreciate any comments about how the YK2 problem might impact the overall market.

Cheers,

REvaluer

how can you guys say dow 10000 by end of year? many analyst and brokeages are saying 10000 by the end of year just a couple of weeks ago. what worry's me a little bit is that thursday journal had a special about how good the economy is and how most average people believe recession is not coming. but according to the chart..it's got to start heading sideways or up soon. it's penetrated below the upward trends lines and the pessimisstic news is piling up. i figuered it would go sideways or up from the 8800 level if they dropped it hard last monday and/or friday, which they didn't but they did do this week. they are starting to nail the bell weathers also. so i guess we'll see.

Ney had repeatedly told us not to use margin as a leverage and I have learned it the hard way. After an almost margin call (so close) and lotta interest payments, I have finally been able to own my stocks, fully. I do have realized gains in 1998 but it would have been much better if I had not leveraged so much in late 1997 and carried on to 1998. I am not saying that leveraging is bad but its good until it work against you. I have to say that this is my best lesson learned this year.

Happy New Year!
