Caution warning on Donner was rang when they made news of the smallest
stringers ever reported at economic grade then at last hole found
pots and pans.

Hi Sam,

**AVRO AIRCRAFT, DEFINITELY OFF TOPIC**

your knowledge of Avro may be limited but your American friend's knowledge is zero. The facts he talks about are without foundation or historical fact. The CBC made a "TV movie" on the Arrow some months ago and it covers much of the basics. (stretched somewhat here and there)

At the time it was without doubt the most advanced "fighter/interceptor" in the world. It was never married with it's newly designed "Iroquois" engines which delivered 30000 lb thrust as opposed to the 18000 lb thrust of the Pratt and Whitney J75 engine. The combo would have been awesome, but in my humble opinion it was Cdn/US politics that killed it.

One little known fact about that era, when Avro gave out the pink slips, NASA was waiting at the gate and most of the top brains went Stateside to the US NASA program and helped put the man on the moon. When I was at AVRO there were approx 15000 employees on the team, it was a sad day for Canada when the team was broke up.

regrads, Terence Mitchell

Apologies to the forum for this ramble into history
