>From the InternetNews.com Staff Guilt by associate program. Amazon.com had to move fast to avoid a boycott that began forming last week in newsgroupland. The bookseller was threatened with a pre-Christmas protest after it was learned that one of the Web sites in its pay-for-performance associate program was Bob Enyart, an ultraconservative talk show host who's been called "Denver's answer to Rush Limbaugh." (Bob Enyart on Indians: "If you're filling out Government applications ... put Native American and you're more likely to get the job.") Amazon pulled the plug on Enyart within three days of the campaign's start. Spokesperson Rob Allen wrote to protesters: "I do not for a minute deny the damage this type of thought can generate." Some early news reports about the hot stock offering quoted the ticker symbol for Temco Service Industries, a giant in the field of building maintenance. What those reports failed to mention mention is that Nasdaq changed Temco's ticker symbol from TMCS to TMCO in October and then gave TickerMaster Temco's old symbol, TMCS, in November. According to one broker who gets paid no matter which stock is bought, "My customers tell me it it's like getting in on the ground floor of television, and I say 'You're right, but when was the last time you watched a Dumont Network?'" (HSA) will net him 3 of the 7 seats on this privately held venture's board. HSA's thing is to fly low and offer Internet cable services in metropolitan markets too small for @Home and RoadRunner. These second tier markets range in population from 10,000 to 100,000; the company has deployed cable Internet services in ten markets so far. No word on the IPO yet.
