Yogi,
<<Anything to add to this universe?>>

How about consolidators and forwarders? Is there any of them specializing in any areas that would make a play? Any of them big enough to be listed public companies? I'll take a look.

Best,
Stitch

Man, why don't you just invest in the next hot Internet IPO instead of doing all this nonsense with distribution.

You forgot the warehouses--
Ingram (IM) - the Microsoft of wholesalers (read: expensive)
Tech Data (TECD) - #2
CHS (HS) - international consolidator (Warning: accounting tricks to boost eps)
Microage (MICA) - cheapest valuation and likely to expose shareholder value by splitting up distribution and IT consulting biz.

Billions of dollars of tech goods flow through these companies each year. You can open up an e-commerce shop (I'm more partial to the term 'mail-order') by linking an storefront website and a credit card server with a query engine that will feed the order to one of the above distributors. The distributors do all the rest, including branding the invoice with your store logo. Thousands of websites have already sprung up using this virtual model.
