I would hope he is smart enough to understand that the mining industry of today is not the polluting mining industry of yesteryear, and that the US needs these jobs NOW!
Often late in the last term (almost) every President does become more "presidential", if only so that history will remember him well. If he can act outside the "democratic party line", and do these things he - and his country - might just survive. We need him to become more statesman like - and we need this - Right Now. I (and most of America) do not think Gore can come up to speed quickly enough ( if ever- IMHO) ! The trade deficit as an indicator of economic health trails the broad economy far greater than most on Wall Street suspect. This is due (in part) to the queue of imports in transit currently and the
queue of goods in the pipeline which are only partially sold at this point! Some portion of goods in some stores today are not yet "sold" and as such are not included in the trade deficit numbers. Among some are the more expensive imports. A few Japanese companies are reported to be fronting goods to dealerships without these goods yet being "sold"!
