Tom and all---

Newbie question... Could someone explain how a ''portal connection'' to CKFR might actually work?

Take Yahoo as an example. I currently keep a portfolio on quote.yahoo.com, which is protected by a userid/password pair entered in though an unencrypted login page. If I were controlling my bill-pay through Yahoo I would require a much more secure login sequence for comfort.

If I wanted to pay a bill from the ''Pay Bills'' button, in what form would I give Yahoo information about my bank acct from which to draw the funds? Would I enter my checking acct num, etc., into some secure Web form? Would I snailmail them a voided check so they could take the details off it (a la Bell Atlantic for monthly debit)? Would I give them a Visa/MC number? (In the last case, who would be paying the fees for a debit against the cards? Yahoo, the biller, me?)

How would Yahoo know/authorize me to view presented bills? Just by my name, address, and soc.sec. number? Lots of billers have my name and address in slightly different forms --- would I have to track them all down? Would I have to tell each biller to send my bills to Yahoo or would Yahoo find out who my billers were and set it up automatically?

I'm sorry if this is all basic stuff to the thread. Please enlighten me! Perhaps, it would help me get my head around this better if someone could explain a mock sequence of interactions between Joe Surfer and Yahoo to set Joe up to receive and pay bills. If it's going to be popular it had better be simple.

Thanks and best holiday wishes to all.
