Emile.

I remember the Nobel speech very well. He argued, not very persuasively, that the only way to keep Communism from taking over America was to crack down repressively on left-wing dissent. In other words, that the only way to preserve our rights and freedoms was to deny them to those we disagree with. He was wrong; many of us suspected it then, and history has proven it.

<i<blood-maddened Jewish terrorists had murdered sixty-six million victims in Russia from 1918 to 1957!

"Blame it on the Jews" has been a rallying cry in much of Europe for many years. I haven't heard anybody argue that Jews controlled the Soviet Union for that period, and it seems very odd that such a small minority could have imposed its will so thoroughly. I should also point out, again, that the Jews in question may have been racially Jewish, but that their ideologies and actions had nothing whatsoever to do with Judaism.

Great novelist, but not to be entirely trusted on history or political theory.

Steve

Emile -- You had better give the page number for that Solzhenitsyn quotation. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that you won't be able to find it in the Gulag Archipelago. Because it is not there.
