Yes, he wants a good 17"-19" monitor that will last him through several computer upgrades. $499 computer + $60 3yr warrenty parts/labor onsite $500-600 monitor (hitachi 19" model 753) His work will download all the MS software he needs. This $500 computer has Celeron 300 mhz 32 SDRAM ATI AGP SGRAM !! video card (only 2mb, but its SGRAM) 24 cd rom 3.2 gig hd 3.5 floppy 56 modem V.90 mouse/keyboard/speakers 2 USB ports 3 expansion slots audio in/out Win 98 etc gosh, this computer is better than the 200 mhz computer I bought last year for $1200. I think it is a viable alterantive for someone who just needs the basics, as you stated. It more than suites his needs. Regards, S.W.
