Rudedog,

I would sell any of my holdings if I thought they would underperform. I would have sold CPQ last year if I had known where it was going to trade in '98. I don't intend to make the same mistake on my DELL holdings next year.

Make no mistake, you do not know where DELL is going to trade in 1999. Nobody knows. You only think that the stock is going to underperform.

Your investments are your choice, but if you think that the underlying business is going to outperform while the stock is going to underperform, perhaps the rational choice is to accumulate more, not sell. OTOH if you think that the underlying business is going to underperform, surely that is good enough reason to sell the stock. Your business knowledge and contacts puts you in a unique position to relatively assess these two possibilities. I would appreciate if you can let the rest of us know as well. <vbg>

rude...

I don't consider Dell to be "idle money" because my timeframe is very long. I'm not a "trader".

I purchased Dell in Nov. 95 for a split adjusted $2 per share so I'm seeing exponential growth on my investment (and that is real money as well).

The reasons I think Dell will outperform CPQ are reasonable. Dell only has a 7% share of the CPU market and are outgrowing the industry growth rate several times over (at who's expense?). They have better products (read PC world lately?). They have a better reputation. Simple stuff like that. I'm sorry I can't offer you a better "technical" analysis.

I bought Dell stock because I had a Dell 486 in 1995, and whenever I had a problem with it, they offered me excellent service quickly.

Dell composes about 50% of my port and that's only because It has grown to be that large of a %.

My total port is up 122% YTD. I own quality stuff. I'm going long on all of it. But I wouldn't own CPQ.

I would never trade Dell for Cpq..They have a proven record of being deceiving about stuffing the channels..Dells execution model is perfect.Cpq knew the stock price was going to fall before they announced the last split..They split to hype the stock and when it fell..we got double whamy.Mikey has always been straight up and most folks feel safe with his directions.Dell wont stay flat in 99 and earnings will be great so the stock will move up just fine..cpq is probably stuffing the channels again and still digesting Dec..i see the same thing happening all over.
