Jay - We're only talking about one product here, and VLSI deserves credit for successfully pulling off one of the most difficult systems to design on a chip. However to have a marketing advantage over Qualcomm they need to continuously innovate and stay one step ahead. But management is reluctant to put more resources into the program before they see substantial sales of the present product.

VLSI needs to at least partner with another company so as to minimize the impact of this and other investments they need to make in the upcoming year. JMHO

My understanding is Qualcomm has always had better solutions for CDMA chipsets and the the competitors are closely. VLSI is one of the ones that is closly the gap. Design wins are good they translate to orders 6 months out.
