If I could run Quicken, a good browser & email package, Office (or equivalent), and Forsaken I'd switch to Linux in a heartbeat.

What makes you think Microsoft is competing in a free market?

They have tremendous advantages over any competitor.

BTW, I just built a new system with Win98. No apparent problems. The folklore is that Win98 may have problems with very old hardware/software (out-of-date) or very new hardware (problems not fixed yet).
