It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. It's my recollection (have to dig out the the news articles) that the reasons announced last year for Ingram Micro and Tech Data building their PC assembly facilities was to do the final "build-to-order" channel assembly for Compaq and other brand name vendors who have traditionally sold most of their business and retail products through distributors.

Now if Ingram and Tech Data go into the "white box" assembly business, they'll be competing with their own major "brand name" suppliers. wonder how that sits with CPQ, IBM, HWP et al?
