JGoren: The Qualcomm press release biz.yahoo.com Dataquest Press Release biz.yahoo.com A couple of questions, what is the definition of a "co-branded" phone. Is it a phone sold by Sony or LG? Even if one assumes that the study is inaccurate and let's assume that just the Qualcomm numbers are inaccurate. It appears that Qualcomm sold approximately an additional 1 Million phones. Therefore, add that into the total number of phones outstanding (10.1 Million) and one gets a result of 11.072 Million Digital Phones Sold in the US. Now, divide 1.8 Million into 11.072 Million and one gets a 16.26% Market share, which is still below, albeit a smaller amount, than 1997. However, if Qualcomm's numbers are indeed inaccurate, it would be reasonable to assume that Nokia's, Ericsson's, Motorola's number are indeed inaccurate. Nextly, from the Qualcomm statement, Qualcomm states: While the Dataquest numbers represent sales to end-users, and not ex-factory shipments to carriers, QUALCOMM believes that a large percentage of phones have been sold through and that its market share is substantially higher than reported by Dataquest They haven't said that it is definite that 1.8 Million phones have been sold. However, it is unfortunate that the Datapoint study, didn't disclose the Actual number of CDMA phones sold Vs. the actual number of TDMA phones sold. dave
