Borzou, maybe "they" WON'T go after Gore, but up until recently they sure WANTED to.

You of course noticed that when Bob Barr first came up with the impeachment idea (back in March, 1997), he was talking about impeaching both Clinton AND Gore. He discusses this in an August, 1997, interview:

impeachment.org

And here are a couple of premier Impeach Gore sites:

conservativeusa.org

impeachclinton.com

However, these sites have not been updated recently, and a flying visit to Barr's home page did not turn up any reference to Gore. So maybe the election, or Reno's refusal to appoint an independent counsel to look into the campaign financing issue, or something else, cooled their ardor. Can't say.

<< I'm not so sure they'll go after Gore. >>

The pieces to the puzzle:

- Republicans target Clinton in search and destroy mission for 6 years.

- Republicans attack Democrat fund raising hoping to cripple them financially.

- Republicans attack Gore on his fund raising efforts, asking for special prosecutor to look into "democratic" fund raising only.

- Republicans attempt impeachment of Clinton, causing paralysis to the country and doing damage to the constitution, and knowing that they won't succeed, but thinking that they will further damage the Democrats ability to raise funds for the 2000 election.

I agree that Clinton has many enemies who have many causes. But, one cannot overlook a probable Republican plot to damage the Democratic Party and their ability to raise funds. While they try to make it look like they are taking the high and mighty road, they are playing dirty politics, IMHO.
