I'm not a biblical scholar - but reading Shelby Spong's book - he points out that an affair by a (married) man with an unmarried woman was not a sin on the part of the man - an affair with another man's wife was considered adultery and unlawful - but this sprang from property rights - it was a sin to steal another man's property - wife wasn't even listed first in order of importance.

An affair with an unmarried woman was a sin against the father of the woman and he could get compensation for being in possession of damaged goods.

The Old Testament or that part at the time of the Commandaments was written when polagamy was legal. E
