Ooops!

I guess that's what AAPL is saying with a bit of red on their faces after running out of the G3's. You can understand, of course, what they were trying to do: just like before, they wanted to clear out inventory before the Yosemite machines come out in January.

To me, this indicates strongly that the Yosemite machines will be not only unveiled but also available at MWSF in January.

It's bad news in the sense that Apple is losing potential sales for the rest of the quarter. On the other hand, this is a rather amazing indication of strength of sales--selling out a full 20-25 days before Macworld (which was probably the goal, to sell their last G3 just before the announcement of Yosemite).

This puts a limit on how spectacular the quarter is going to be financially, but it also downplays the possibility of a disaster earnings report, considering that this was a pre-planned, albeit miscalculated move on Apple's part. . .
