Wildstar,

This all comes back to democracy vs. republic. Since the USA is a republic, we elect our leaders to make decisions for us, such as making laws, declaring war, and even impeaching presidents.

However electing representatives is one of the few powers reserved for the masses. Therefore overturning an election should not be an action taken lightly or for political reasons.

I think that the Senate is the ultimate jury under the Constitution, not the American people. If the polls are so important, then we should have a popular vote for or against impeachment. But the framers didn't draw up the Constitution that way.

There is probably a certain expediency here. If you really have a President running amok then holding an election is just not practical. I wonder if these same framers seeing the process today might have chosen differently. I cannot believe the partisanship. I think this points to the weakness of the grounds for impeachment. You should have people lining up on both sides of the aisle if the case was strong.

Your comment about "take a poll and go with the majority" may be the source of Clinton's strength and popularity.
