dmf, sounds like we're using a different definition of backward compatibility. To me it means will a new machine, or an upgraded part of it, run all the software the original one did, basically put. It sounds like on the Rambus thread they are using it to mean you can't just open up an existing computer and drop in Rambus memory, Well, you can't. It will take new chipsets and motherboards to interface Rambus memory to the CPU chip. So, maybe the minimum upgrade to take advantage of Rambus will be to upgrade your motherboard. But, that probably means a new CPU chip as well. If so, might as well do the whole thing. Need someone closer to Intel to take this over.
