This is correct. I've never encountered (or read of) a case opposite this.

In almost all cases. The new "multi-read" (that's probably not the right name) drives supposedly can.

I'm fairly certain this is true, since a CD-R drive is essentially just like a CD-Rom. But I've never tested it myself...

In almost all cases. Old drives and some scattered drives can't read certain brands of CD-Rs. My CD-Rom reads every CD-R fine, expect it has a problem with Imation ones.

Also, *some* DVD drives can read all formats of CD and most formats of DVD. I'm pretty sure this is achieved with two lasers. One for CD and one for DVD. Older generations of DVD seem to be selective about what they can read.
