This is another, typical Ellison/McNeally delusional vaporware.

Did you notice that the article basically said that the "OS-less" computer would have Linux or Solaris as its OS?

The database appliance is a very different paradigm than the NC. The database appliance will not change the desktop. It will make the operation and capital expense of the computer room lower with no software re-engineering. It is plug and play and results in faster response time, higher availability, and reduced sys admin costs. No re-training is required for anyone at all. It will also be cheaper to buy.
