Bobby,

I agree with your charge of meddling. My wife and I just moved from California to Western North Carolina. Gasoline prices are below $.80 per unleaded gallon just over the line in South Carolina, while they are still over $1.15 I believe, in Santa Barbara County, CA...and they pull it out of the ground there. I have always attributed the difference to varying regional tax structures.

As a compulsive gardener, but also a beef, pork and fish eater, I am similarly conscious of prices of agricultural commodities: low, and end product prices, at least in the case of beef, here in the Southeast, high. So from September in California to December in North Carolina we have transitioned from cheap beef to cheap gas.

I did get a birthday present today. One of my two gold holdings outside of mutual funds and coins, is Getchell. So, do I want to own Placer? What kind of confidence should I have in their stock? They were certainly hated on the Bre-X and Chrystallex threads. I look forward to the ensuing discussion on this matter.

Richard Harmon's communique with Ted David of CNBC may have borne fruit. From a pr standpoint this buyout could help focus attention on an industry whose stock is undervalued to most of us following this thread.
