Nasdaq 100 in annual shuffle, Amazon.com to join

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Online bookseller Amazon.com
is at the top of the list of companies joining The Nasdaq 100, an index
of the 100 largest stocks traded on the Nasdaq stock market, as part of
the exchange's annual reshuffling.

The NASD (National Association of Securities Dealers), the parent of
the Nasdaq stock market, said the components of the index and their
market share of the index will be rejigged on December 21, 1998. The
index does not include stocks of financial firms.

The index will also be rebalanced. It will change to a modified
market-capitalization weighted index from a market-capitalization
weighted index. The change is in advance of a new product, a
derivative of the index, to be introduced in the first quarter of 1999.
