LongonDell,..Re:. Who is a fault here?!

Most conveniently forget that the press as a whole was entirely for Clinton, even throughout the Genifer Flowers mess. So what else should they say now that their selection has displayed less than quality standards? Obviously, they have to paint another picture of blame?

Dell is hanging in there considering.

Regards,

Lee

Henry Hyde and his band of merry men and any Republican acolytes joining in the feeding frenzy! According to the article (you should read it) many Republicans feel that pursuing Clinton is politically safe because there are no elections looming.

The major point of the article is that while the American people do not want Clinton removed from office, the current power base of the Republican party (the religious right) wants to pursue that line. Virtually all Republican leaders do not believe that Clinton will be removed, and some have expressed the opinion privately that he should not be removed, but are afraid to take that position publicly for fear of what the religious right will do. So, they are playing a memory game, guessing that the religious right has a longer memory than the electorate at large. At the same time, the Republican National Committe is distancing itself from the process by remaining quiet. Wheels within wheels.

The worst part of all of this is that a rump group, the religious right, having taken control of the Republican party, is no attempting to stage a palace coup. Make no mistake about it. This group of zealots has been after Clinton from before he assumed the Presidency. And what they have done is akin to setting a speed trap. They started with Watergate, then they added Filegate, and then there was Vince Foster's death, and let's not forget Travelgate. The list goes on and on, and their aim was clear. They were going to hobble this man one way or another. Now we have zippergate.

Whether Clinton perjured himself or not is not the issue. The issue is whether the charge of perjury in a civil case involving an individual with no connection to the US government is a high crime or misdemeanor. In 1974 the House Judiciary committee expressly distinguished between personal behavior (tax evasion and making false statement on tax returns) and violating the public trust (using the CIA, FBI, IRS to hound political enemies) as a basis for impeachment.
By the way, Henry Hyde did not believe that Nixon's actions were impeachable. Incredible but true! I guess that Hyde believes that being a Democrat is a necessary condition for impeachment. Trying to subvert the country's political system is okay. But lying about fellatio is another story altogether.

The really odd thing about this is affair is that Clinton is closer to the Republicans on virtually every issue than most leading Democrats. But all of this doesn't matter to the vigilantes.
