So, as you can see I'm currently making an assumption. And you know what they say about assumptions. :-)

It sounds like a big MAYBE to me. Dave's experience with the IDE LS120 doesn't seem to match the spec at all. If my math is right he should be able to transfer 100 MB in less than 4 minutes at a 450KB/sec sustained rate. He indicated the transfer takes about a half hour.

SCSI is faster than IDE as you indicate but only marginally and not in all cases. The speed benefits of SCSI are mostly in a multitasking environment. The IDE interface is fast enough to enable a 450 KB/sec sustained rate..it does much better than that with harddrives.

If the SCSI interface somehow relieves the bottleneck and you can approach the spec the difference would be significant.

I will try my LS120 IDE drives to see if I get results similar to Dave's. The test may not tell us much as I only have floppy media but I'll do it anyhow.

Emory, if you're looking for SCSI backup speed, consider a Zip insider instead of a SCSI LS120: it's shipping now, it's much cheaper, its glitches should all be worked out, and it's significantly faster than the IDE LS 120 I have now. (I don't reckon that that SCSI will be faster than the IDE, as the bottlenecks don't lie with the interface.)
