"Sony, Western Digital tie on audio/video HDD"

TOKYO, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Sony Corp said on Tuesday it agreed with Western Digital Corp (NYSE:WDC - news) to co-develop a new hard disk drive (HDDs) for use in consumer audio and video equipment.

As the first phase of the joint development, prototypes of the new HDD will be developed and tested for verification of basic technologies by the end of March 1999, the two companies said in a statement.
