Wally: Your scenario regarding impeachment is as good as any other I have heard recently.

Clinton won't resign unless the Democratic leadership walks up to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to give him a reality check. I don't think that is likely.

Market is strong today in the morning. Now that is a nice surprise to me considering impeachment is more and more likely. Maybe the market is discounting getting it all behind us in some simple fashion outside of trial <g>.

Regarding your scenario for a Senate-sponsored compromise short of a trial, I'd be really surprised to see that. Keep in mind that even after the election, the Republicans still have a majority in the Senate. That means that whatever the Republicans want to happen will happen, short of conviction, and you can bet on it that they will do everything in their power to try to gain political advantage from it.
