softmoney - I think the real reason the votes are going along party lines is that the Democrats know they're in for the fight of the century for the WH in 2000. Even though Clinton is a lame-duck, his prestige in the media is such that they need him for the campaign - Gore simply stands no chance if he doesn't have "President" Clinton behind him. The risk of having Cliton removed is going to create some interesting bargaining in the next few weeks. But, I still think the Democrats will have him there at the convention, nominating his VP.

Frankly, the votes aren't there (two-thirds) to convict. I've mentioned this before, but even if Clinton were to walk out into the street and gun down Starr in broad daylight, the media would trot out the polls saying he did a good job.
