What happen if we sell those pre-split shares for tax purpose?
Can we still get the dividend?

That's correct. An investor can buy all he wants BEFORE he sells his higher cost shares, and still claim a tax loss.

But AFTER he sells,he can not buy for 31 days. If he buys before 31 days he has lost his tax loss on the sell.

It also takes no capital to do this because most brokerage's will carry you for three days. Buy one day and sell the next, all you lose is the spread.
