Good one, Borzou. I remember that, I was going to bring it up after all the breastbeating here, but I didn't have a ref handy. Of course, old Jesse has come up in some other contexts here, always a central fixture in the moral reformation wing.

Cheers, Dan.

Violent passion is one of the unintended consequences of concentrating more and more political power in Wash. DC. If your side ( whatever "side" that is ) looses, you are 100% frustrated. You either become cynical and drop out, you double your efforts to win next time ( and turn into a one issue voter ), or a tiny fraction will turn violent.

The beauty of the founders vision of diffusing power ( which I know you embrace as well ) is that if you're side looses in your state, and you are passionate about the issue, there's bound to be at least 1 of the 50 states where the people feel differently. You can expend you energy in packing up and moving. If you pour a 50 ft driveway in one slab, it will crack, and quickly disintegrate. Pour it in 5 or 6 slabs and stress can be concentrated at the seams and it will last for years.

Until the trend of the last 60 years is reversed, I predict we'll see more Federal Building tragedies - God forbid.

Borzou,

Interesting post. Personally, I like the fact
that Senator Jesse Helms speaks his mind. It
is quite refreshing to get away from the polical
mindset of newage Marxism called PC.

Anyway, I was at the El Toro Airshow in 1995
and was shocked to see "IMPEACH CLINTON" bumper
stickers on some of the weapon displays. That
is treason. The President is Commander in Chief
of the armed forces and it is illegal to make
disparaging remarks about him.

Speaking of Commander in Chief, he is about to
dump more bombs on Iraq. I saw all the U.S.
Personnel clearing out of Bagdad this morning.
Nothing like bombing the bejeezus out of the
defensless Iraqi population to pump up the
Presidents approval rating...funny how it is
coming the day before the House votes to
impeach...you don't think there is a connection
do you?

-John

Borzou, the difference is that this incident was front page news for days and the lead in television story. Since I found out today that Baldwin made the remarks last Friday on T.V. you lose the ten bucks! :-)

But since you did send me three copies of that terrific Internet magazine you produce we will call it even. :-)

By the way, to anyone out there in cyberland. If you want a quality Internet magazine on investing, Give Borzou a holler on a private message for a subscription. It's really worth it.

Best, Michael
