Those of you who which to attend should drop me a note at ericy@macevolution.com so I can keep you updated regarding time and location. Looking forward to seeing some of you out there.

<OK. Point taken. But do you think average Joe who's buying the iMac, for example, or the Compaq Presario, gives a rat's ass about music editing software?>

The point I was making is that all this is professional software, not consumer software. I agree that your average Joe surfer doesn't care about pro software, but it does have a bearing on what others purchase. The creative community has been Apples anchor for quite some time, will Apple eventually cut the chain?

My friend is buying a Yosemite machine but I'm holding on for the Sawtooth machines because I really, REALLY NEED OpenGL. I may end up not buying a Sawtooth. I don't know how long I CAN hold out. Without OpenGL and with the poor support Macs have for Java I think that the Mac for professionals might just disappear, and I'm leery about putting more money out for a platform that is uncomfortable building professional machines. I'm happy they are selling zillions of consumer units but that's not what I need. I'd like to stay with Macs, really! If you could see the difference between how a QT movie runs on a 604/132 compared to a duel Pentium 300, well it is really obvious there. Even an old Mac does video better than a new Windows machine. However if you can't run OpenGL software, you can't create the movie. But realistically... we'll see I guess.

If they do pull out of the professional market, it may hurt their consumer market. It's that confidence factor again. I think they aren't off the edge of the razor blade yet.
