Jim, thanks for the site, I have a Hard copy, but the site make it easy to copy patch here the relevant section:
"Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on
impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.".

I am not sure what it is you reproach me fro, the omission of "bribery"?

I did listen on and off to the proceeding, but I admit I could not and read some of the summaries of Starr's report. I did not find much proofs, but even if the actual articles where found by the Senate in its trial to be "stickable and the President would be convicted of these, I still cannot find these infractions rising to the level of "treason, bribery or other high crime..." .

Maybe it is my foreign background, but remembering that at the funeral of the last French president there were three women, his wife, his concubine and his illegal daughter from said concubine, I find the whole situation a farce as Enigma correctly stated. Of course we should conduct our affairs according to our "higher standards", but we should also recognize that the rest of the word is rolling on the floor in complete mkisunderstanding of our debacle. The only other country right now where a similar situation can be cited is the farcical trial of the former second in command in Malaysia, but that is a Muslim country and there morals standards are of course much higher then ours. Adultery is punishable by stoning to death (only the woman mind you, the man gets to live free and happy thereafter). Is that the standards you want us to ascend to?

One of the more difficult aspects of the current
situation in the US is the frequent ostracism
experienced by anyone who questions whether
impeachment is warranted.
