Here is some food for thought:

If and when Vivus announces a domestic partner:

Lets "assume" there is announcement in early 1999 and Vivus shows a flat Q4 1999.

I would expect that the three analysts who currently have a hold rating on Vivus would upgrade to a strong buy and give various 12 month target prices as earnings estimates are revised upwards. I would expect the target prices to range between $15 to $20/share.

In this day and age of obsene targets in money losing ventures such as AMZN I don't think anyone can call this unreasonable.

Vlad,

Someone said/suggested, perhaps you, that the country approvals took 30 days. The time scale looks much longer, don't know why it should take so long.

Does this new announcement disprove that Vivus have already included the milestones in Q3 98 as some critics suggested?

I am happy at first with Leland's statement, which we will no doubt analyse minutely. I think he goes as close as he reasonably can to saying that they have a partner without actually saying so. And it looks like the final details are hinging on discussion and perhaps some disagreements over the true worth of Vivus shares.

VLAD,

I agree with you and that is why I am still here. Also, I am impressed with the domestic script count given no focused sales and marketing effort. So I think VVUS could have real upside surprise under right partnership agreement in US.

Rgds,
