There are deep differences and yet deep kinships between doctors and engineers. (Note my jape over at Feelies.) Both are fascinated by what makes things tick. Both are probably supremely indifferent to Literary Criticism, because it adds nothing operational to the human experience.
I feel somewhat confident in expressing this, because I was interested about evenly in the physical and biological sciences as a youngster. Now I live in a cusp between the two - organic chemistry. A black art if there ever was one.
