You may be right. Daytraders in high visability, low float stocks are a pain the rear for long-term investors and market makers. I read recently that market makers are pushing for regulation of the day traders, and are often simply refusing to make a market in the highly day-traded stocks, switching over to manual systems and dragging out the trading process to discourage the traders.
