Cheapest rate is actually $1.79, which is the "in-country" rate for the United States. The most expensive "in-country" rate is for Afghanistan, and that is $7.23 per minute. IRIDIUM service is unavailable for countries deemed inimical to democracy, such as Cuba and Libya, and I suspect Afghanistan harbors too many political fringe elements to earn low usage rates. The lowest region-to-region rate is to another IRIDIUM subscriber unit, which is not the most likely use. From an IRIDIUM unit to a fixed site telephone, the lowest region-to-region rate is, I believe, U.S. to Europe ($4.70). Other examples are: Southeast Asia to Korea ($4.74); U.S. to Japan ($4.87); India to U.S. ($7.12) and International Waters to North America ($6.52). Bear in mind that the IRIDIUM dual mode phone gives the user the option to utilize cellular when available; the above examples will seem cheap if you've no other alternative (lost at sea, trekking the Khumbu Glacier, rescuing hurricane victims in Honduras, etc.). This is NOT meant to be a rate table, nor does it come close to being the complete picture; please call Motorola Cellular for complete details.
