w molloy:

You seem to be missing something...it's Qualcomm that has been pushing for a single converged standard.

The NTT-DoCoMo announcement is, without doubt, a plus for Qualcomm. NTT-DoCoMo was an Ericsson ally and now they are saying they are part of a group working to reach a compromise, and that group does not include Ericsson. This is a politely phrased (did you expect anything else from a Japanese company?) defection from the Ericsson camp. Any schism in an enemy is good, especially if one faction is making peace overtures.

Of course this does not mean the war is over, but it is definitely another step in the direction of a Qualcomm victory.
