If Ampex becomes an incubator of companies and then spins off in a rights offering or ipo, then a good company to review for a model is Safeguard Scientific (SFE). They have a very good website. Their model has worked extremely well. In fact, about 2 years ago, there was an article which documented that SFE, run by Warren Musser, has outperformed the other Warren over a statiscally significant time period..One of their early rights offerings was Novell back in the 80's. In the last 5 years, Cambridge Technology Partners(CATP), Coherent Communications(bought by Tellabs for stock this year)Sanchez etc...worth seeing the website.
