Hmm, "up to 1 Gbyte per minute" sounds like quarter-speed FC gear, doesn't it?

I could not find 'Xiotec' with alta vista or several other searchers.

Can anyone find any site for them or any internet references to them?

<<Xiotec's entry into SANs has an embedded switch. They are located in MN. They
wouldn't need the enclosure, just the innards. So who do they get it from?????

Xiotech accomplishes this by com- bining standard storage components and
advanced clustering technology. The vendor last week released RediCopy
online backup software for its Magnitude storage system, which shipped this
fall; the hardware includes 64 UltraSCSI disk drives, a RAID controller, and
a Fibre Channel switch. When users and systems are online, copies of active
data are moved at speeds of up to 1 Gbyte per minute; the switch then moves
the copies to a free server for backups to take place.>>

Well, let's see. 100Mb/s is average, run-of-the-mill
fast-wide SCSI, stripped-disk performance such as
a Ciprico RAID or something equivalent. That
translates to 6Gb/minute. So this company is reporting
out at relatively slow number. With a single FC drive,
then it is a pretty good number but the wording
suggests a peak as opposed to a sustained throughput.

Without costing information, Xiotech's claims are hard
to judge on the wow meter. Based on reading between the
lines I would suggest this company is integrating standard
components from the usual suspects.

Good news that small companies are working FC into
there plans when they can. It will sell switches in
the long run.
