I would like to ask you and the other Republican partisans posting here what your priorities are. What happened to the Contract with America, much of which I firmly believed in and hoped would be enacted and even expanded upon? Reducing the intrusion of government into the lives and pocketbooks of Americans. Rolling back the suffocating layers of statism and letting the winds of freedom and economic growth give hope for the future and the future of our kids. These are the kinds of issues that turn me on and made me celebrate the fact that the GOP regained control over both houses of congress and started to reverse the course of prior decades of ever increasing, tired Democratic quasi-socialist nannyism. Unlike Dipy, I am saddened that much of the GOP agenda, supported by the voters who gave them the majority, is going to go down the tubes over this impeachment debacle. I don't hate Bill Clinton or particularly like him either. The spectacle of Al Gore just now calling him "one of the greatest Presidents in our history" was almost embarrassing to watch. Now it's crunch time. The Senate WILL conduct a trial, according to GOP leadership. Clinton WILL NOT resign, according to his own statements. The trial won't be over any of the serious allegations of wrong doing investigated by Starr, (many of which would fully justify impeachment and removal if proven), it will be months of testimony about Monicas breasts and semen stained dress and on and on, it will be about SEX. A tawdry and disgusting diversion while the country drifts leaderless through worldwide economic difficulties and the prospect of Saddam Hussein and other nutcases exploiting our perceived weakness. Who do you think the country is going to punish over being put through this? Does "getting" Clinton really matter to you more than seeing your agenda enacted? The independent swing voters are defecting from your side in droves. They perceive the GOP, rightly or wrongly, as being controlled by vengeful partisan extremists. Do you, the GOP, really want to throw it all away over this issue? It's gonna happen, and I don't particularly relish the thought.
