Well, I bet Henry Hyde, Ken Starr, and the rest of the oh-so-shocked sanctimonious hypocrites are hoisting a few brews about now to congratulate themselves on a job well done. They have succeeded in humiliating Clinton once again by putting a permanent blemish against his name on the historical record. The hell with the consequences, because the people will forget this whole thing by the time another election comes around, right? It is done! So what that the country is torn apart? Party comes first. The majority can do what they damn well please.

Another little consequence is there is now a great many people, including me, who will never vote for a Republican again. The depth of our outrage will spread like water on a blotter. There is no forgiveness for purposeful cruelty. What the Republicans have done, in their fanaticism and hatred, is embrace blatantly unfair tactics so as to ruin the man and, incidentally, the process that heretofore has served us pretty well.

If there is ever a future Republican president that so much as farts in the sacred oval office, there is going to be a demand for an investigation, complete with a Democratic prosecutor who will just as determined to stop at nothing less than disgrace and removal from office. I'm sure the Democrats will be able to come up with shocked indignation and hand wringing consternation as well as the Republicans … given the recent lessons and the precedent that has been set.

From a thoroughly chagrined ex-Republican
