Got a 2700 today too for $149. Battery latch doesn't have a noticeable "click" but no wobble. Love the jog dial.

Sprint, Airtouch, PacBell GSM all sitting in a row. You can stand there and watch the flow as consumers gravitate towards the GSM StarTac, wobble slightly when they see the pricetag, walk past the rest of the GSM phones to head over to the Sprint booth where you get 200 anytime minutes for $30 a month.

Saw a lot of excitement (Circuit City didn't have any Q-phones) for Motorola V3620 whatever phone. Regrettably, its analog. Clamshell design like Startac except only 70% as wide. With a size that competes with their alpha pagers, it is truly too small. Check it out sometime...

Sprint store was crowded as well (registered for service).

Q-1900's are popular at the Sprint store, I can tell you that much.

It's also depressing to hear that JMD bought the Q phone for his wife and that it drops more calls than the cheaper phones. And Q is the Rolls of the fleet...What a DRAAAAAAAAAAG!

I 've been dropping into places that rep Sprint and BAM here in NYC. BIG change from last year. LOTS of CDMA phones..MOT Star Tac and others, Audiovox has a nice phone that comes in black or a sort of polished chrome which is quite compact, Samsung, Sony, Nokia. Despite the fact that there are few QCOM phones to be found this is all good news for QCOM.

Also stopped by Unwired Planet to look at GSM offerings. This stuff is definitely "hipper", all multicolored and "modern". It's a little hard to see why Nokia is outselling Ericsson to such an extent. Ericy phones are smaller and slicker looking IMO., even though they are a bit boxy.Maybe it's the specs, which I didn't have time to get into. The Unwired Planet store is in SOHO, a very boutiquey atmosphere..Fashion its essence.

Maybe Tero can explain this once more. Why is Nokia selling so many more phones than everyone else?.

Dave

limtex, just to share a thought or two [as mutual recent 2700 purchasers]. Just one man's opinion, but I really, really like my 2700 and the battery fits snug as a bug in a rug. I wouldn't hesitate to take yours back and swap it for one that pleases you. 2nd, the 2700 I got for significant other was too big/heavy so I returned it for a Q phone. Size was right but battery wasn't a fit with handset (seemed loose and phonehad trouble finding service), popped back in and they swapped out. New Q groovy like an old time movie.
Ergo, handsets are a very personal thing. The Q is way too small for me, dial pad would have me pushing numbers with toothpicks and my hand wraps around the set. Plus the lack of analog roam would bother me as some of my biz travels still take me to the lands of technological infidels and it would honk me off to lose service. My SO is not hindered by single band/mode only. Finally, I must give the Sprint PCS stores I dealt with very high marks: if you want to exchange your phone, it's no questions asked, no hassle at all.
Hope this helps. SM

More on 2700.

No wonder it is so bulky. We get the TABAT0101 "extended battery" with the phone.
store.qualcomm.com

The other two batteries are "slim" and "ultra-light".

The Sprint store completely sold out of Q1920's (what they are calling the new PCS Q-phones) and QCP1920 single-band phones. Those salespeople look tired. B-)

BTW. In some areas, San Diego included, they are offering 200 minutes for $30 a month as an xmas promotion. For the asking, you can add 500 off-peak minutes for another $5 a month. 700 minutes total for $35 a month.
