He and
Owens became friends, to the consternation of the Aryan brotherhood.>>>

I am surprised at that given the era, but it is nice to hear.

Anyone who is a history buff or a film buff or a sports buff should watch that movie.

There is a shot of Hitler rubbing his leg and his knee in a nervous gesture during one of the competitions. And shots of his frustration as some German lost. Not having lived through that and with no real exposure to that part of history - it was interesting for me to watch.

The gymnastics are great to watch aesthetically, but they look like training exercises for current 13 year olds in competition.

I am still thinking about watching those military officers compete against people they would soon invade. I have to say they could handle a horse. There was a difficult jumping manuever where most of the horses shown balked and/or pitched the rider. All three Germans handled it beautifully and the American made it, although he did have to turn his horse around. There may have been Germans who didn't handle it so well, but they were not shown ;-)

Of course, I did get a chuckle out of the water manuever where one of the Germans was thrown off. He broke his collarbone, but continued on the next day for his team to medal (which is probably the only reason his fall was shown in the movie - German military perservance)
