Moving on to a different subject: I stayed up till 2 a.m. Sunday to watch the Cincinnati-UNLV game on ESPN. Kenyon Martin, UC's center-forward, had one of the best all-around games I've seen in a long time. At one point he was 10 of 11 from the field and had six or seven blocks.

Rest assured that Tuesday's matchup between Duke and Kentucky will not be the only time these two teams meet this season. They are the top two teams in the country and will hook up again in March. The game Tuesday will be decided by how well Duke plays defense.

More on John Wooden: I believe his first high school coaching job was in the late 1930s in Dayton, Ky., a small town right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. He coached the Green Devils for two seasons. So while he technically is a Hoosier (but not the Bloomington variety), he developed the foundation for his success in the Bluegrass State.
