I think it is more likely a sound card function. If you want to record to the the harddrive it will be some recording software supplied with the sound card. Just guessing

The other option is the line out on the sound card. It could be split with a Y connector. One segment to your speakers and one to a tape recorder. You could then play back to the sound card by playing the tape if you want the sound on the harddrive.

I'm using a software package that allows voice recording. It works fine, but it requires a speakerphone modem. The software is made in Canada and it's called "Communicate Pro." Here's the link to the website: 01com.com
